I would like to introduce my new blog, Midwest Theatre Review midwesttheatre.wordpress.com. I am a professor in the University of Toledo’s Department of Theatre and Film, where I direct theatrical productions, and teach theatre history and playwriting courses.
I started Midwest Theatre Review because I think that Toledo’s theatre and performance scene, as well as the theatrical scenes of surrounding areas in Ohio and Michigan are underrepresented in the local presses. There just aren’t very many people writing reviews about theatre and performance here on a regular basis, but if more people did this, it would raise awareness of the great events that make a visit to Toledo worthwhile.
The Midwest Theatre Review will also seek out reviews and announcements of performances taking place in any part of the Midwest. The hope is that this blog will attract audiences and artists who want to participate in Toledo’s theatre scene, and also show that there is a great wealth of performance in Toledo and the broader Midwestern region.
Midwest Theatre Review is an artistic exploration in progress, and it conceives of theatre in broad terms: theatre, dance, multimedia performance art, and more will be a focus of the blog. I am hoping that many people who are creating or seeing interesting theatre or performance in Toledo or the surrounding areas will contact me (my email is on the blog site) so that I can list their work on the blog or send someone out to review it. I would also love suggestions for what sorts of pages might be of interest to anyone who visits Midwest Theatre Review.
